We are looking to immediately recruit a full-time Web Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have previously built web-based applications from the ground up.

• Designing and implementing websites and web applications.
• Maintaining and improving our existing portfolio of websites and web applications.
• Developing and maintaining site APIs.
• Developing apps for third-party environments such as Facebook and iPhone.
• (Currently all coded in PHP)

• Excellent knowledge and experience of PHP.
• Solid understanding of OOP.
• Strong CSS, XML and XHTML skills.
• Good understanding of Javascript and AJAX.
• Prior experience of developing database-driven websites.
• A high level of self-motivation and proactiveness.
• Attention to detail, a positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Independent problem solving skills and flexibility to meet tight deadlines.

• Creation and manipulation of graphics.
• Exposure to MySQL or other RDBMS.
• Some experience with a Unix/Linux CLI environment.
• Familiarity with SVN or other version control systems.
• Some experience with, or understanding of, APIs.

The right candidate will receive a competitive salary plus 20 days annual leave per year.

You'll be working from our Islington offices in central London.

Blue Compass is a small but rapidly-growing company which runs a number of different websites in the fields of arts-based recruitment, event listings, online dating and social networking. The sites serve over 300,000 clients, so expect your work to be rapidly deployed to active users. The office environment, whilst hard-working, is relaxed and informal.

This is the first dedicated developer role for the company, and you will be working with the Technical Director and System Administator.
